my wife purchased this one for our family. initially, i looked at the darn thing and noted, "really, can this really make espresso, coffee, or what have you. I have drunk coffees from the far east(shanghai) to as far (west) roma, and never in my wildest dreams would i have imagined myself ever creating some of the best espresso ever." however, i did one rare morning, reading the instructions not once, twice, but a few times as i was boggled that alessi just needed low heat to brew the stuff of the gods.first initial cup, "oh my, oh my" this is way to heavenly to be espresso. perfect temperature. perfect brew. and strong at that. okay, i was hooked like an ahi. you won't regret it purchasing this item. lastly, i think alessi would make a perfect gift, a gift that i would only consider giving to my wife. but alas, my wife beat me to the punch and i am totally indebted to her for a life time or two.

I got this item and sent it back for a refund. If this makes 3 (espresso) cups I must be crazy. It doesn't even hold enough for 1 cup. Don't waste your time.
