Espresso drinkers who don't want to fuss with valves and knobs will appreciate the simplicity of this stovetop espresso maker. Constructed of durable stainless steel with a retro-look black Bakelite handle, the machine heats on any type of stovetop burner and doesn't require paper filters. Bodum includes user-friendly directions for filling the bottom compartment with water, the cone-shaped filter with fine coffee grounds, and what sound to listen for when steam has forced its way through the grounds and left the aromatic brew in the upper chamber. A safety valve regulates the steam pressure. This is the smaller of two sizes of stovetop espresso maker by Bodum, measuring 7-1/2 inches tall and 3-3/8 inches in diameter at the base. The 12-ounce capacity pours approximately one large mug or a two smaller cups of coffee. After use, the espresso maker can be unscrewed and every piece placed in the dishwasher or quickly washed by hand. Allow to dry completely before reassembling. I strongly disagree with the reviewers that gave this a 1-star review because of the handle. As several other reviewers have noted - you are not supposed to use the handle to tighten the pot and you should take care when using this on a gas stove.I have a gas stove, and always use the body of the pot to screw it together. I bought mine at a local coffee roastery at a very discounted price - before amazon dropped the price here. I have had mine for 6+ months and LOVE it. It works very well, assembles smoothly, and makes delicious percolated espresso. I even find I can get a nice little bit of crema by using the low & slow method.No broken handle here.Buy this pot. Use it wisely. Stay happily caffeinated!

I am a regular at Starbucks, Coffee Bean etc outlets near my office.This coffee maker makes excellent coffee so much so I have stopped going to those outlets and paid for itself within a month.Always use the best coffee beans you can afford.Always use filtered water.Never open or close using the handle for leverage, you will break it. This is counter-intuitive and is the only negative point in the design. Otherwise an excellent product.I bought two and after writing this will be ordering two more for friends.

I've had this guy for a few months and use it at least two or three times a week on average. I also have a 6-cup Bialetti and I quite prefer the coffee from the Bodum.First of all I'm unsure why people's handles are breaking so much, but I'd guess it's because they're pushing on them while screwing/unscrewing the top. The handle is not meant for that. If you look around for a bit you'll find other moka pot owners screaming on the internet not use the handle to tighten or loosen the seal.The slight tweek I mentioned is that I have to use both rubber washers to make it consistently brew correctly. On my item the lip of the cup that holds the grounds does not fit perfectly into the bottom piece (and it really must be perfect). Since the rubber washer's inner radius is just barely the right size this leads to leakage of air/steam from the lower compartment and ruins the brewing process. Thankfully, adding the spare rubber washer successfully solves this problem with a tighter seal.All in all, I'm very happy with this product. It did come with a moderate flaw but it was easily remedied.
