We got this espresso maker as a gift and loved it. For one, unlike the Aluminum Bialetti's that preceeded it, this unit was super easy to keep clean, load up, etc. The stainless pot could be thrown into the dishwasher from time to time and it looked great too. The aluminum handle rarely got hot to the touch and unlike bialetti's didn't have an annoying habit, like melting, or snapping off altogether. The wide base of the ARS09 made the espresso maker quite stable, even on a gas stovetop.My only initial criticism was the continued use of cheap white rubber rings vs. the silicone ones offered by third party resellers as a seal between the top and the bottom half of the espresso maker.What soured me on our particular unit is the crummy bottom seam design on the pressure vessel. The lower part of the espresso-maker is made up of at least two pieces of metal (i.e. the flat part on the stove and the angled walls). After a couple years of use, our pressure vessel let go and now water starts to escape the espresso maker every time pressure builds up inside (which is how this coffee maker works).Communications to Alessi have gone unanswered. While this is one of their least expensive espresso makers, I cannot recommend it on the basis of being made by a company that doesn't even respond to customer mail. I would also suggest avoiding designs like this with sharp corners in the pressure vessel - it makes it that much easier for the pressure vessel to fail.I ended up ordering the Cuisinox Roma 6-cup Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker which features a rounded base, whose bottom is massively thick, and which has a 25-year warranty. Pressure vessels rarely ever have sharply-angled walls for a reason and the Roma can be used on every type of stove, including induction.

Good design and quality manufacture stand out and this Alessi stovetop has both these attributes. It will last a lifetime and has already brewed numerous cups of delicious coffee. Packaging and delivery were both excellent.
