Love it!LenaI absolutely love this espresso pot. I bought the 2 cup (3 oz) version and it really makes less than 2 oz - which is fine with me, but would have been nice to know when I was considering purchasing it. I have the Bialetti aluminium espresso pot that makes a lot more and I am happy with it. I wanted to get one that was stainless steel and smaller. I bought the Bialetti brand stainless steel that was made in India and it was a piece of junk. It was really poorly made. I returned that one and bought the Vev Vigano which was made in Italy and the quality of the craftsmanship is top notch.
Strengths, weaknesses, and liesBenjamin W. PearreThis machine can make very good coffee if you're very good: just the right quantity of coffee freshly roasted and freshly ground to just the right size in a good grinder (expect to spend at least twice as much on a grinder what you spend on this machine), with just the right amount of heat applied--the amount of heat controls how fast the brew water comes up through the grounds and has a huge impact on flavour (if you're doing it on a gas stove, watch out for drafts since they'll affect the flame significantly).Problems:1) My unit's high-pressure valve leaked around the threads. It was easy to unscrew, add standard plumber's teflon tape, and screw in again, so that problem is solved. But still sloppy of them.2) I have a "2-cup" unit. It holds about 8 grams of grounds (dry) or 10g if I pack it in (not recommended). It produces maybe 40ml of coffee. A standard single espresso uses 6.5g of grounds to produce about 30ml of drink; a double is twice that (duh). To complicate matters, in many USA cafes a "double" is the smallest unit and is what you get when you order a "small" espresso. So while a moka pot does not really produce true espresso, I find it questionable that they should sell a "2-cup" unit that produces something much like a "single espresso"--it could legitimately be called a 1-cup or in the USA a half-cup, but never a 2-cup. Make sure you know what you're getting.Other than that, the workmanship is decent (stamped steel and spot-welding, while not beautiful old-world craftsmanship by any stretch, is effective). If you don't look too closely the unit qualifies as decoration, and it certainly works if you take the time to learn its quirks.Making back-to-back coffees in this thing is awkward. When the unit has just made a shot, it is very hot--you'll be cleaning and rinsing it while wearing oven mitts. And the time between putting it on the stove and getting your coffee out can easily be 3 minutes, which is a long time when you're holding a perfect cup of espresso-like-drink.
