Love these
rss30

I got a set in white, not black (I know it's strange, but for some reason the color makes a difference to me). Moving past the color...EVERYONE should own these!!! They are SO USEFUL! I own two sets now. We premake hamburgers, turkey burgers, bean burgers, etc. and throw them in the freezer in these, and essentially have ready-made meals whenever we need them. The press just makes a mess, we just use our hands to press the meat into the containers. Fits a good sized burger. Never had a container like this before and always ended up w/ freezer burn on hamburgers I tried to freeze for later. Not any more. I highly suggest these.

Better than most, but could be better
C. Young

I had an aluminum moka pot before, but was concerned with the fact that it was aluminum, so I went on a search to find a stainless steel moka pot and ended up with this one.Overall, I like this pot since it is bigger than my last pot and made of stainless steel. However, there are a couple of things that could be improved upon.First, the inside of the pot isn't stainless steel, but is coated with some mystery coating that is definitely not stainless. I'm not sure what the reason behind this coating is, but I'd rather it wasn't there. Also, the spout could be improved upon. It's positioning tends to cause minor spills when you are pouring. While this pot isn't the perfect moka pot, it is better than any of the others I've tried, so I would recommend it.

The best stovetop espresso maker available
Sarah Zanze

I wanted to disagree with the other reviewer's opinion and say that this is an excellent stovetop espresso maker, especially for a larger size. Strong, easy to pour, and good looking. It is important not to cook it too hot so that the entire batch will percolate correctly.

A great machine!
Louis F. Spagna

We have 5 stove top espresso makers and 4 of them are VeV Kontessas - a 2 cup, a 6 cup and two 12 cups. All machines make great espresso if you follow the instructions. We brew 'American coffee' in them as well varying amounts of ground coffee to taste. Had a bad pressure valve on one of the 12s and Vev replaced it. Had handle fall off other 12 awaiting Vev reply but anticipate no problem with warranty replacement. Never had any problems with the 2 or 6 cup machines in the 10 years since buying the first one. I would not send a bad product as a gift and I intend to send one of these as a gift this year.

there's coffee...and then there's COFFEE.
photology studios

One sip and this becomes a conversational piece. You sense the brew power as it percolates and briefly steeps the coffee. Just be certain when you're brewing for the first time and you get all excited about this new toy, as I did, that you refrain from two urges: 1) firing the gas stove at full speed and 2) peeking to see if the coffee is ready by opening the lid. Adversary effect is, you might get a scalding from the coffee and two, you may overheat the handles. Fortunately, those two latter events did not happen, but it was a close call:)Quality build is decent. The silicone gasket is decent. Also make certain to tighten the bottom half to prevent coffee from purging on the side due to high pressure as it percolates. cheers:)

I bought this Italian coffee maker just a few dAYS AGO, AND IT IS USELESS, I am Italian and every Italian household has one, this broke within the first 2 days,I have been a customer of Amazon for 6 plus years, and whatever I bought from different sellers were always five star, I cant send it back because it broke, I have used many Italian coffee makers like this one even cheaper ones and never had a problem, I will never buy from this seller again.Mary Forman, Redding Ca

Works great!
Stephen K.

I bought this to go with my G.I. Type Stainless Steel Canteen Cup. It fits like a glove and works as intended. I've found that it boils water quicker if you rest the canteen on it in such a way that the canteen cannot slide into the stove. Also, doing this will prevent the stove from grabbing onto the canteen cup once it cools due to how much the stove expands and contracts in relation to the steel cup.It appears to be constructed out of aluminum, so it is quite light.

Not cool
Charles Davis

they sent out the wrong canteen stove i wanted the on in the photo, it would work with my camp jet flame, "open on both end they sent me one open on one side that wasn't what was advertised... i'm sending it back!

Does NOT fit USGI canteen cup!
Ian Patterson

This does not work at all with the USGI standard issue metal canteen cup. It does not fit around it for storage and when you turn it over to try to get the cup to sit on top of it, as you would to use it for cooking, it falls inside. Regret my purchase.

Real cappuccino with one pot-sometimes
Lucia

First, my review is based soley on making cappuccino, as the only espresso I've made are the three pots you are instructed to make and throw away to "season" the pot before using. When I first opened the instruction booklet, I was overwhelmed by the diagrams and instructions. However, the English instructions are very clearly-written, and they are easy to follow if you just take them step-by-step. Once you've gone through the process of seasoning the pot, you will be quite comfortable with the parts and the process, and it will go quickly. There is also a good troubleshooting section.A few things to know before you purchase this pot. The instructions say not to use finely ground espresso. I asked my local café to grind their high-quality espresso beans on the more coarse espresso setting. The result tastes exactly like what we had on a recent trip to Italy.Don't pat the coffee down in the coffee holder, and don't tilt the pot after you screw the top and bottom together. I did this once to make sure it was screwed on straight, and the milk didn't foam because the ground coffee shifted in the coffee reservoir. If you want foam, you must use whole milk. I used 1% the first time, since that was all I had when I received the pot. The result was a nice latte, but no foam. Also, the instructions say not to use vegetable-based milks (soy, almond, rice, etc.).The instructions say not to use an induction cooktop. I have a glass top range, and I set the burner on #7. It takes 4-5 minutes total for cappuccino. The pot produces two smallish cappuccini. If you are drinking alone, and have a larger cup, you could certainly drink the entire amount yourself. In fact, I'm so pleased with this pot and the ability to make cappuccino easily at home (after spending the equivalent of $4 for one cappuccino in Italy), that I'm going to email the company and suggest that they make this pot in a 4-6 cup version.Jan 28, 2013 Update: Since I wrote my original review, I've had mixed results with this pot. About the half the time, I end up with latte instead of cappuccino. I am following the instructions, and making sure the valve is clean after each use. Filling the coffee reservoir to the brim may be the cause this, so I've been trying to use a little less coffee. The English troubleshooting section of the instruction manual is titled, "When the pot is naughty." The title in the Italian section of the manual uses the Italian word for capricious. I would say that capiricious is accurate, since I can't figure out why I sometimes get foam and sometimes I don't. When I get foam, I am very impressed with how easy it is to make real cappuccino at home. When I don't get foam, I still enjoy a delicious latte, but it's somewhat disappointing. I've reduced my rating from 5 to 4 stars as a result.

the cappuccino maker great; the delivery weird!!!
Fernando

So Overall I am amazed on how good the Cappuccino is and the valve used to make it happen is better than the one used in the other better known brand with the cow symbol. The overall machine is really well made. The issue was that upon arrival and opening the first thing I noticed is that it appeared to be almost new and not a new coffee machine. I say almost due to the fact that I would have not notice that it was used if it wasn't for the dried coffee stains left on the side of the coffee maker. For what I can see it seems like someone used it probably one time try to clean it really fast and put it back in the box trying to make it look all new but since they didn't pay attention to detail had left proof of their mischievousness. I have decided not to return it since I am not a picky person I clean it and is all well. The seller was CashClock but they may not be the ones to blame since I had also ordered some filters for my humidifier from a different seller at the same time and they got send together by amazon fulfillment services, where at least they should have done some quality check (although I don't know how their mail system works)and notice that the box looked like it had been open before and do something about it. The only reason I mention all of these is that I would had been really angry if the same had happened with a more important item like my baby's new bottles or an expensive electronic device that looks like it was tampered. In other words something did not happen or something happen in between me placing my order and receiving it at home. But hopefully I am wrong, and just wanted to inform you all for your knowledge in case these helps at all. Surprisingly enough I do recommend the coffee maker since is an excellent device and works so far great. If all above mentioned had not happened I would had gave it a 5 stars.

Amazing Results
TABco

I bought this in hopes that it would make a decent cup of espresso, and cappuccino. Followed the directions for pre-cleaning it. Even while cleaning, I could see that the process was very nice, using the little pressure valve. Holds the water in the coffee, until the pressure is up, and then WHOOSH! fills the top pot. This little pot brews a wonderful espresso, with nice crema, and a nice frothy cappuccino. WOW! My only wish is that it was bigger. Perhaps a 6 cup model. If you want a good espresso or cappuccino at home, this will give it to you. Easy to use, and quick. No big bulky machine on your counter, and to clean. This thing cleans up fast, too. VERY HAPPY with this purchase.

Rusty Vev Vigano Kontessa
davo1963

Had it 9 months. Makes a good cup of coffee. Trouble is the water compartment has increasingly become rusty on the bottom. Its not stainless steel, even though everything else is!Anyway took it back to the retailer who were good enough to replace it with a different brand at their own expense. Apparently Vev has a non refundable non replacement policy. Doesn't that just say it all! You'd expect them to be made in China not Italy.

Excellent and beautiful espresso maker
Reptile

The unit is very beautiful and efficient in making espresso. Will last for decades if you take care of it. Espresso is done in about 3-5 minutes. I like the fact that the unit comes completely apart for proper cleaning and is made from stainless steel. Only exception to this is that the inside water compartment has a rust proof coating that does eventually wear off, but the solution is to simply clean it after you use it, or scrub it with steel wool once in while. The included gasket lasted about 6 months under normal everyday use. Very nice unit. I owned it for about 1 year, but I have stopped drinking coffee now.

4 years and still happy
J. Winters

Can't believe I've had this espresso maker for 4 years! There is a gasket between the bottom and top sections that I've needed to replace for about 2 months now (still works, just looks like it needs to be replaced) so while I was searching for that part I thought I'd put a review down.I have used this at least 5 times a week for the past 4 years, and have never had a problem with it. I'm not sure how the previous reviewer got rust on the bottom of his (maybe he lives near saltwater and it reacted with the metal of his heating element?) -- it is most certainly stainless steel.I've always used mine with a gas stoves, so mine actually is done brewing in about 2 minutes. It is the perfect time to make a latte -- start the espresso brewing, 30 seconds to grab the glass and pour the milk, heat milk in the microwave for 90 seconds, and when the microwave beeps the espresso maker is making that tell-tail sound that it is finished. Perfect!Since I am the only one in my household who drinks coffee, I love that this is a "4-cup" size (which is actually the right amount of espresso for one of my lattes) -- it makes the right amount for me. If you want to serve more, get a bigger one. You can't do rapid-fire back-to-back brews with this unless you have fireproof hands that can pull it apart while still hot. (I have a french press for when I have company over and need to brew extra). I find that it takes about 5 minutes before I can handle this to wash/reload.Pros:-- High quality / very durable materials-- Size (for me is perfect)-- Looks good (i keep it on the back burner in view)-- Pour spout pours cleanly without drips or dribbles (unlike some cheaper ones I've used)-- Easy to disassemble / cleanCons (these are pretty much the same for all stove-top espresso makers):-- Can't 'reload' until it has cooled-- Handle gets hot if placed directly over the flame (I set mine to the side a bit, and keep the handle out of the flame; still use a towel when I pour)I would highly recommend this, and if the day comes when I need to replace mine I will definitely look to this brand!

Bialetti 8-Cup French Press
Scott Fairbairn

The Bialetti 8-Cup French Press is the ultimate in quick strong "coffee for dummies". You can't mess it up!To Use:1.) Remove the plunger;2.) drop a few spoonfuls of ground coffee into the glass beaker;3.) fill the beaker a few inches with boiling water;4.) stir;5.) replace the plunger and press it down slowly through the water until it reaches the bottom of the beaker;6.) pour and enjoy!WARNING: If you're not used to coffee with a high caffeine content, go easy with this at first. An ensuing caffeine headache is almost guaranteed any day following a high-caffeine intake day UNLESS you continue to take in high caffeine levels at or near the same time of day. To avoid caffeine headaches, be consistent with your daily caffeine intake OR, withdraw from caffeine gradually, reducing the amount over a number of days.Pros:fast, easy, affordable, convenient, rinse-and-store clean-upCons:A floating coffee granule or two may occasionally be found in the brew. For me, this isn't really a drawback and it only happens infrequently, particularly with fine-ground coffee.Bialetti coffee makers are consistently among the best of the affordable genre of manual home brewers. This one's no exception.Enjoy!Scott

easy to use and care for, once in a while a few grounds get past the filter- this may be because it is easily bent around the edges, so you have to watch out for that. I think this product is well worth the price.

The only reason I gave it one star is so I could review this. The glass carafe arrived broken. Item was immediately returned. I am still waiting for the charge to be removed from my credit card...4weeks. Do not order it. The packaging for shipping is inadequate.

Very disappointed
B. Hirsch

Very disappointed in this. I bought the 3 cup version and it worked perfectly, but 3 cups is one big cappuccino for me. I ordered the 12 cup because I used one while staying in the Dominican Republic. It was great. Enough coffee for me and my husband, with enough left over for an iced coffee in the afternoon.I should have known something was wrong as soon as I opened it. The stem of funnel that holds the coffee is much narrower than either the 3 cup I bought or the 12 cup I used in the DR. The first time I used it, it was fine, but every time since then it makes about 2/3 as much as the 3 cup. 1/3 the water travels up the stem. The coffee just tastes burnt.I've gone on line to find a replacement. There are none to be found.

I purchased this as a gift for my mother. It arrived a few days before my trip to see her and we opened it and used it together. From the start, there was slight leaking around the band where the top screws to the bottom portion of the coffee maker. It was not too significant but I was keeping my eyes on it.Towards the end of the week, unbeknownst to me, mom put the components in the dishwasher and ran it. The coffee maker was ruined. All of the exterior finish washed off, leaving it a dull, pewter color. When we tried to wipe out the interior by hand, the sponge came out nearly black and continued to shed its surface material to the point that we gave up and felt it would not be safe to use. There was absolutely no material provided with the coffee maker, either on the box or inside with regard to any instructions for care or maintenance. While I would not personally have run it through the dishwasher, the impact of doing so was significant and made the coffee maker seem to be unsafe to use further.

A design classic and a nice cup of coffee
P. Grass

We bought this coffee pot (correctly called a Moka) in Sicily 9 years ago. Since then we have used it regularly to make what we think is great coffee (although I'm no expert). The 3 cup size is perfect for a large 12oz. cappuccino or for two 8oz cappuccinos (yes - I know the maths don't add up!). Once made the mistake of putting part of the pot in the dishwasher which dulled the aluminium. Since then we've followed the instructions and only rinsed the pot in warm water, leaving the coffee residue to coat the insides of the pot. The rubber seal(gasket) needs to be changed every year or so. Try to buy a few when you get buy the pot then your retailer should be able to give you the correct ones, otherwise look on-line for Bialetti replacement gaskets - they sell a 3 pack with a new aluminium sieve.

Good Gadget but a challenge with modern gas stoves
GigiGramercyGirl

Makes good espresso, but take care with gas stoves as the modern ones have a large ring of fire, much larger than the base of the coffee pot,. Not only is the fire-ring waaay bigger than the pot, but the gap in the center of the iron stove-top ring is much bigger too. Therefore you need to precariously place the pot at the edge of the ring of fire, and take care not to let the whole thing tip into the gap of the iron ring on your stove (that iron thing that sits on top of the ring of fire that holds up your pots.)Aside for the above challenge, it's a good little thing. Pretty, and makes a good cuppa joe. Easy to clean, and makes a fast cuppa (6 minutes).

Very Happy

ordered this because I remember my parents have something that looks very similar and makes outstanding espresso. This is functional but the lightweight aluminum just isn't the same, would definitely spend the extra dollars to upgrade to the stainless (think different brand) but for $30, whatever, it works

MADE IN CHINA! Paper thin reproduction of an Italian Style Coffee maker.
zippy

I ordered an Italian Coffee Maker. On other websites this coffee maker is listed as "Made in Italy," sadly Amazon has no requirements for listing country of origin. I thought I would get an Italian coffee maker, instead I received a very thin metal coffee maker that was very careful to hide its Chinese origin. Made in China was not printed on the box. Made in China was not marked on the coffee maker. Made in China was printed on a very small slip of paper placed inside the box. It appears as though they were trying to hide this important information. I returned all three Chinese coffee pots manufactured of very thin metal. The quality of the pressure vessel was extremely thin and appeared dangerous. The description of the item was deceptive.

Time to get my fix!
C. Sorrells

this is the largest Moca pot that I have found. Water resivor holds 25oz of water and will make 24oz of espresso. Works great out camping where I will be using while back packing. This unit is very light weight, I couldn't be happier.

Follow these tips for a unique coffee
T. Speidel

Every family in Italy owns one of these machines. Here are a few tips:1. In Italy this is NOT called an espresso machine, but a Moka machine. An espresso is what you would drink in bar made with a steam or high pressure machine with the crema on top.2. Smaller size Moka machine tend to make better coffee.3. Never wash the Moka with detergents, just rinse it under tap water4. You've gotta use it often for a good coffee.5. If you haven't use it in a while, make a weak coffee ("lungo") and discard6. DO NOT put the MOka in the dishwasher.7. Use drinking water. Avoid tap water especially if very chlorinated8. Never compress the coffee.9. For a strong coffee fill the filter with ground coffee and make a small cupola that slightly protrudes beyond the rim. Do not press down.10. For best coffee, heat at very low heat. It's ok if it takes 10min.11. As soon as coffee reaches the top, remove from heat12. Do not let the coffee boil13. Use good quality coffee, not too strong, medium grind (try Illy for a good commercial brand)14. Sip while still hot, enjoy!15. (Added Nov 2012) - Wait until all the water has reached the upper chamber before removing from the heat. You will be able to tell by the sound (takes some practice) or simply visually. As soon as no more coffee reaches the upper chamber remove from heat. Do note let the coffee boil. With practice, you may remove from the heat even sooner, by just using the residual heat in the lower chamber.16. (Added Nov 2012) - Some times you may put too much coffee, or the coffee is too finely ground, or it's been packed too hard. In all of these situations, the end results is typically that the coffee struggles reaching the upper chamber. You can tell by the spouting noise occurring too early, the foam occurring too early, and how slow the whole process is. You can try increasing the heat if that helps. However, you will likely end up with a coffee that is too bitter and tastes burned. Back in the old days, this was dangerous business with many machines exploding (they had no safety valves). Regardless, your coffee is ruined and I would suggest removing it frmo the heat immediately, let it coold down and starts all over.17. (Added Nov 2012) - What kind of coffee should I use? Experiment, experiment, experiment! Here are some tips I have learned by experimenting. Until you become confortable with the operations of the machine, you can use a good commercial brand like Illy (although it's quite expensive). I wouldn't want you to blame the machine, just because you happened to use a bad coffee. Then start trying different varieties from different roasters. If there are independent roasters near you, why not giving them a try? I haven't had good experience with roasts marketed towards Espresso machines (I find the roast too excessive). Try to buy whole beans and grind them yourself. I find the cheap and popular brands pretty bad for Mokas, even if they happen to make good American style brews. I have had pretty good luck with small roasters and Colombian varieties (or Costa Rican). I have also had outstanding African coffees (Ethiopian). Unfortunately, I found they are seldom consistent.

The best -- straight from Italy!

About 12 years ago I was in Milan, and a friend gave me one of these to take home. I have used it nearly every day since (I don't take it out of town), so that should give you an idea of how sturdy it is. It is the best coffee maker I have ever owned. To compare, I also have a high-tech espresso machine with frother; a state-of-the-art automatic drip coffeemaker; a French Press; and a different style of stovetop maker, which, surprisingly, makes a different brew. But I ALWAYS go back to my Bialetti Moka 6-cup for the best espresso and lattes. You even will get a crema effect with this simple pot. For lattes, I simply fill half a coffee mug with milk, heat it in the microwave until it's hot, and then top it off with espresso. It's low-maintenance -- every once in a while I replace the internal rubber gasket, which costs a buck or so, depending upon where you buy it. If you like your coffee like the Italians and the Cubans, then you will like the brew this serves. I am loyal to this simple little pot, and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

My favorite espresso maker of all time

Works great on the stovetop, works great when you're CAMPING..!!! No plugs, no cords, no nonsense -- fill the lower half with water to the indicated mark, put your grounds in the upper basket, join the two halves, wait for it to gurgle and you have EXCEPTIONALLY DELICIOUS espresso the way it ought to be made. The device is simple and beautifully made. I'd recommend the six-cup version, the smaller versions just don't make very much espresso -- I mean, get the six-cup version if there are two of you, since that will make an adequate amount.Really a brilliant product. I wish that everything was so well-designed and robust. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

The only drawback? You'll need a larger one for company...

Recently picked up a 3 cup Bialetti Moka Express while on holiday and couldn't wait to get it home and broken in. I've tried stove-top Italian coffee makers before, and this model has not disappointed.Sturdy and well made, this unit only has about five parts, all of them metal or heavy-duty plastic so very little can go wrong. This should last ages if properly cared for.Just remember to keep it simple; fresh, cold water in the lower chamber (stopping *before* you get to the brass outlet valve) and fill the grounds basket with an espresso grind coffee (good excuse to buy more coffee) without packing it too tightly. Place on your stovetop ring and don't go anywhere. Wait a few minutes, and you have an excellent espresso to start the day or to add to steamed milk after dinner. I can't wait to have some with a cigar this weekend. I've been trying some Cafe Bustello the last few mornings and it's been great. Yeah, I know it's canned, but so are most of the coffees in Italy and Latin America. The only problem I can foresee is needing a larger one for company, but unless you need gallons of espresso each morning, this is great for two to share.

Great coffee maker with proper care.

I bought this espresso maker while in Rome in 2004. It works great. Poe Boy is correct aluminum does not rust; it corrodes so he has E. McNair on a technicality. E. Mcnair is correct that the bottom of the coffee make will corrode and leave a white oxide inside. The solution is in proper care (I learned the hard way). Wash the coffee maker by hand, towel dry. Store unassembled. Water gets trapped in the filter and will drip into the base over time and start the corrosion. I have started doing this and the white oxide has not reappeared. So, take proper care of it.Bon Appetite

This thing is awful! Don't buy it

Unless you are ready to be ruined for any other coffee, and the three cup size will not be big enough! Decades of my life wasted. I've discovered real coffee so late in life, my only lament about buying this espresso pot is the tears shed over all those mornings I *could* have had REAL coffee...Easy to use, a little time consuming to clean, handsome enough to leave out as a decoration. Unscrew the bottom, fill the bottom half with cold water, fill the little filter cup with fine ground coffee (note that "espresso" is a grind, not a roast), screw it back together, and put it on the stove top. In five minutes or less, you have the most incredible coffee ever. With the internal parts, it is not hard to clean, but time consuming, especially given the time it takes to cool off enough to take apart (the other reason to get a bigger one, the little one is too slow to reload). The styling is a little retro, but handsome enough to lend a kitchen a quirky flair. Oh, but that's trivia next to the coffee that comes out of it.I've been using a couple of Tchibo coffees in it with super results, and look forward to trying other fine grinds in it.Don't do it, don't get this monkey on your back, don't ruin yourself for all those lesser coffee makers, and don't touch my espresso pot (we need alone time).

Exact replacement units for Bialetti 6 cup moka pot
Joe McCormick

Three rubber gaskets and a new top filter for the Bialetti 6 cup stove top espresso brewer. How much can you say about some rubber gaskets? Not much, but these are Bialetti branded replacements, identical to what came with the new unit. As long as the originals have lasted, I should be set for life.

Bialetti Replacement Gasket
J. Vigna

After melting the gasket due to making coffee without water (yeah you can laugh) I was upset about the loss of my beloved moka pot. When someone told me I could buy a new pot on Amazon I was amazed to see that I could purchase a new gasket as well. My only advice would be to measure, measure, measure. I bought the wrong size from a local store because they only had the one size. At least Amazon had all the parts necessary.

Fit my ancient coffee maker!

I have a Moka Express pot that was my great grandmother's from about 50 years ago and decided to try to use it. The gasket and filter were corroded and falling apart. I found this replacement set and took a chance and ordered it. The gaskets and filter are original-equipment quality and fit perfectly.
